At Least 134 Killed In Iraq In Last 2 Days . . . .

. . . .As massive search continues for missing U.S. troops:
U.S. and Iraqi forces exchanged fire with suspected Sunni insurgents Monday as they continue a massive search for three missing American soldiers south of Baghdad.
The Iraqi army said two insurgents were killed and four wounded.

An al-Qaida front group, the Islamic State in Iraq, claimed that it had captured the soldiers in an attack on a U.S. convoy on Saturday that left four other soldiers dead.

A U.S. military spokesman in Baghdad said the military cannot verify the claim by the Islamic State of Iraq. But Lt. Col. Christopher Garver said he would not be surprised if al-Qaida in Iraq was involved because there are similarities to an attack last year that left two U.S. soldiers dead.

Four-thousand U.S. troops backed by aircraft, intelligence units and Iraqi forces are searching for the third day today.
Violence Continues Into Second Day

Eight people were killed in attacks in Iraq on Monday, a day after one of the deadliest days in Iraq in weeks.

Police said three policemen and two civilians were killed Monday when gunmen opened fire on a police checkpoint in Diyala province. And three people were killed when mortar rounds hit an outdoor market in a Shiite section of Baghdad.

In other violence, police dragged two unidentified, bullet-riddled bodies from the Tigris River south of Baghdad. And Sunday night, gunmen apparently disguised as Iraqi soldiers broke into the house of a Sunni family in a Shiite-dominated neighborhood and killed two people.

At least 126 people were killed or found dead across Iraq on Sunday, including two American soldiers who died in separate bombings.
